Our device is an affordable alternative and supplement to professional physical therapy, meeting the standard resistance and range of motion values of traditional therapy. To assist both the clinicians and the patients, the device provides real-time quantitative feedback to monitor progress throughout recovery. Our device is inexpensive, sturdy, hands-free, and relatively small, increasing overall ease-of-use.
As we move forward to improve the current design, a suitable set of three springs with increasing resistance for three successive stages of healing need to be chosen. This will provide patients with a rehabilitation device with various resistances, allowing it to be used throughout all stages of recovery. In addition, we hope to make improvements on portability by decreasing the weight of the design without decreasing its durability. Finally, further studies with consistent patient use are required to measure effectiveness, which will be measured in terms of healing time and patient costs.
